Comrade Hakeem Hasan Finjan Passes away

Due to Fatal Illness

On the night of Wednesday, Dec., 31, 2008 comrade Hakeem Hasan Finjan (abu Atheer), a member of the central committee of the Left Worker-communist Party of Iraq passed away in Nasiryah General Hospital due to lungs failure at the age of 52. The funeral was attended by his family and comrades in Nasiriyah.

Comrade Abu Atheer was a fervent communist activist, a fighter for the working class and socialism, and an active member in the Left worker-communist Party of Iraq. He was the secretary of Nasiryah committee and head of the Council of Service Workers in Nasisryah Hospitals. He was a workers’ leader and a revolutionary communist. Through his struggles and leadership, the unemployed workers in Nasisryah organized demonstrations in which they raised the banner of “ Unemployment Benefits or Suitable Jobs” and formed with his comrades, especially our late comrade Abdul Majeed – Abu Moayad, the Council of Service Workers in Nasiryah Hospitals. Through his leading and active role, the temporary hospital workers were successful in becoming permanent workers. Abu Atheer also played a significant role in celebrating the anniversary of May Day 2008. On that day, Abu atheer along with 35 workers were arrested and imprisoned while heading to celebrate May Day anniversary in the main square of Nasiryah. His loss is the loss of all workers.

Comrade Hakeem was born in Nasiryah and had become a communist since his teens. He was an active member of the communist movement. He joined the Worker communist Party of Iraq in 2003 after the US invasion of Iraq. After its foundation in 2004, he joined the Left Worker-communist Party of Iraq. In the society of Nasiryah our dear comrade was an amiable and respectable figure and known to be an audacious communist. His early leave bears great pain in the hearts of his friends, family, and comrades.

Our party extends its condolences to all party members, friends, and to his wife and family, and wishes them to endure the pain of his loss.

The memory of comrade Hakeem Hasan Finjan – Abu atheer, will be vivid in the minds of all his comrades and the working class. His communist principles and bravery will light the path of struggle to achieve the goals and aspirations of the working class and for socialism.
